Starting out on Substack

Where to begin?

Hello Substack.

I’m a lapsed blogger and writer, just getting to know the Substack ecosystem. I’m looking around, searching the main streets and the alleyways to discover the layout of this place and how it all works.

I'm hoping to write about faith and culture and Christmas. Or maybe just Christmas. There doesn’t seem to be much about Christmas history and traditions here, which is a passion of mine. I’m all about the intersection of the Christian faith with history and contemporary culture.

I know about writing. I was a broadcast journalist with the BBC for a decade and more of my life and I’ve authored a history book. I also write a lengthy (too lengthy) sermon every week. I want to write, but I don’t want to be self-indulgent.

Any hints and tips from experienced people here of how to proceed?
